Has anyone out there ever cut out the J3ish tube behind the instrument panel in a PA12, installed a X-brace like a PA18, then moved the instrument panel forward? The X-brace would have to be welded in high to allow clearance for the upper engine mount bolts, but I think it could be done. I am going to weld in some type of mount for a header tank anyway, and was thinking that if the PA18 type X-brace was installed, moving the panel forward would be a nice bonus. I'd keep the short tubes going down aft of the V brace back to the longerons in, just remove the cross tube behind the instrument panel.
