Flying with carb heat

That is known as a "hot spot heater" which is designed to aid in the vaporization of the fuel mixture. Inline engines like the Ranger have these. As I recall there is/was a bulletin to render them inoperative to prevent leakage from the exhaust gasses contaminating the induction mixture which could cause loss of power.

For this I use my EDM 760 with an IAT-probe. I check all the time the inlet air temperature in the carb, than I adjust the carb-heater to + 1 to 5°C IAT, so I never had iceing problems!
