Ok gang, here's the latest topic of discussion around here....

On Cubs (J3 through PA-18 ), what kind of tailwheel steering springs do you like best, tension or compression type? And why do you like them?

It's amazing what topics pop up around here!
 
Tension: Simple, Tough, Heavy Duty...If ya break one on landing, the tail gets real violent...
 
Lost a spring ski flying couple yrs ago.Took the other one off and flew it that way for almost a year.Did'nt bother a bit.last fall dan dufault borrowed the old girl for greenville,when he took it off floats fixed it right again.They go pretty good without springs(free wheelin).I noticed some of the videos lately of the extreme cubs and such,they were'nt using springs.
 
Plain old plain old. A little slack. Safety wire to capture it if it decides to leave the aircraft. Fix shimmy problems elsewhere.
