Compass advise

My bird is going in for her annual next week and I am looking to place a new compass. My mechanics recommended looking at a SIRS. Anyone have experience with this type? Any advice as to a good mounting location. My current compass is mounted on the dash nicely between the braces, yeah so you all know how well the compass works.....
I have no idea how old the compass is, only that it needs to go...any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

The search function at the top of the page works pretty well. Here is a link to one of the previous discussions. I glued my compass high on the windshield.
