Widebody with 3" extended gear shock strut length question

Grant

FRIEND
At Work.....
It appears the strut length is too short because the gear has too much positive camber. Thats the only thing I can imagine would be causing this. Surely I'm not the first person with a widebody and extended gear.... It makes sense but I just did not think about it when I ordered the 3" gear and struts.

Setup

Widebody (Dakota Cub)
Widebody Cabane V (Dakota Cub)
3" Extended Gear (F.A.D.)
3" Extended Struts (F.A.D.)
Hydrasorbs

So the question is.... Is there a 3" extended, Widebody strut that I should have and if so who makes it? I looked at Airframes, Dakota, and F.A.D.

You might try picking the plane up, if you have lifting tabs, and set the camber that you want and measure the needed strut length. I wonder if it would be close to PA-12/18 gear 3” extended strut length. I have a pair that I could measure to give you an idea if that is even close.

What does Dakota Cub say? I have never heard of a wide body shock strut. Pictures?

Steve, Mike mentioned a "Widebody Extended Gear Strut." However, its just the bare fuselage sitting on the gear so it may be just an illusion but it still seems like too much. Can someone measure a 3" Strut from hole to hole for me? Just the strut, Not the hydrasorb. - Thanks. I guess it is possible that Atllee sent standard struts.

Thanks Fellas!

Add 300# on the nose and see if that levels it out. You're approx 800# under the typical weight that suspension is designed for.

If it is any help, PA-12 standard gear shock strut is 18 1/8" C to C and PA-12 3" extended gear shock strut is 20 11/16" C to C. This is the PA-12 with PA-18 gear configuration.

Airframes does make a 3" extended, 4" widebody shock strut. AF12844-43 measures 20.625" eye to eye. Hopefully that helps.

I'm not sure if it would work on a Dakota fuselage with Dakota cabane and Atlee gear. Airframes and Atlee gear use different axle inboard end lengths so the shock struts are normally not compatible from one brand to another.

Looks.like 32" on shock strut length on this Airframes wide body.
