Thanks Bill , was “almost” certain that Squaw Peak is the Mtn just above the spinner on your cub , put my readers on and saw our old home place . Obviously not actually visible ( our place) but home as being one of the best areas that my Wife and kids ever experienced. We had a great life there .
We built a place up on Government Mtn , on a bench among giant red cedar , larch , p pine & doug fir , probably about 800-1000’ above the Clark Fork-Cabinet Gorge Reservoir. Gravity spring water , propane lights and refrigeration , wood heat , a diesel genset for the wash machine , etc. and year long goose music .
Very rare to even see a boat on the reservoir and because of the glass smooth water , I used to dream of having a float plane there . Fast forward 15-18 yrs we went back to camp , boat and fish and the water was full of boats , jet skis and honest to god , a cub on floats landed not far from us and motored up to b.s.about the fishing .
That pict you posted from this morning brought a lot of great memories back . Thanks !

Years ago, I visited a friend in Priest River & we flew our two C170's up the Clark Fork River to Noxon for lunch.
We landed on what I think was an old railroad right-of-way.
The tavern (maybe Toby's?) had a windsock mounted on it.
Tame as it was, it was probably my first "off-airport landing".

Hotrod , I would be lying if I said yes on the windsock on Tobys but since you mentioned it I do seem to recall one up on the roof . The old RR grade was the town strip . Toby wasnt much on making chow and would usually send hungry patrons 3 doors east to the Wanagan Bar. Larry & Sharon Larkin had that place and she made the best fried chicken between Spokane and Kalispell . Sharons brother had a 182 and used that strip often . Sadly the waunagan burnt down along with the town Merc when Tobys went .

Picked up 2 NX Cubs and an X Cub in Lewiston, ID Tuesday afternoon, Salt Lake City Tuesday night and made it home with them about 4 pm yesterday. We had great weather and played a lot. It was a fast but really fun trip. Saw some great country and lots of wildlife. Oh yea, stay away from Caveman ranch, new owners don't like people dropping in and are pretty rude about it.

I landed on that right-of-way a few times in 1971-72. I think a Fish & Game guy had a 180 on the west end. Railroad spikes were laying all over the place!

There was a similar setup at Dell Montana for years, with good eats at the School House Cafe. Planes would land there and go eat, and take off, no big deal. But, there was some incident that brought some unwanted attention to the practice, and the local LEO put an end to it, or so I'm told.

OK, so I've always wanted a warbird and got the chance to purchase one from a member of this forum last year. The CHS CAP invited me to sit static with them at the Charleston AFB airshow. It was hot, but I'm glad I was able to go.

Today's venture was to Boulder MT for historical feeling photo and a quick peak inside of an early Stearman. There were also a ton of elk and antelope out in the sunshine this morning, and my roaring 65 horses didn't bother them a bit.
