What's the best way to locate members in different cities/towns?

In considering places to relocate I often think "I wonder if there is a supercub.org member there."

What is the best way to find out?

There is a member directory, if folks opt in to it. I have a map of where all the members are, but it would need to be "opt in" also as some of our folks are pretty sensitive about people knowing who and where they are. It is super easy to do the map.

Are you trying to avoid members?

Steve, a map would be of interest. How would we opt in, and how would we view it?

I’ll opt in for a map.

Some history here. When this website was young, and people were actually buying computers (who had never had one before) just to use this website (no lie), there was a lot of concern / suspicion about having your "information" on the internet. Because of that, the member list was an opt in that you only got to view as much info as you offered. This worked OK.

I have been using google maps to map members for years privately, just so I could see where folks were, etc.

Fast forward 20+ years, I think it is time to put together an opt in member map. I guess the question is, do people need to be able to choose what they want to share (location, phone, email, name, airport, etc) and should they be allowed access to the map if they don't opt in?

This is not a heavy lift. I have always been overly sensitive about keeping member demographic data just for this website. I've never sold the data, and have no plan to do so.

Should be opt in. If you dont opt in to share your location dont get the map- though I think a city/state should suffice for location.

How bout just post your question here?
Active members will see it & if they want to reply, they can.
If they don't want to reply, they probably wouldn't want to get together either.

Well that’s the problem Hotrod, Rick Papp and Henry Sanger responded once and haven’t been able to get rid of me yet! Hahahahahaha. Sad but true.

We had something similar to this in the "old" days called Cross Country Accommodations but it somehow evolved into a discussion thread.
I think the member list would work OK for contacts if the member name and log in name could be matched.
Also it would be helpful for members to list what accommodations were available for RON.s. Hangar, place to sleep/camp, vehicle, fridge full of beer, etc.
That contact info could be posted, but not allow replies. Could even list by States.
