Whats a low time original 1957 cessna 180 worth?

Just curious as to what you think an original 180 would be worth with low time, about 1000 hours. It looks like it did when it was new, basically no updates on avionics, interior, etc, with the normal wear and aging. It is an aluminum finish plane, so the paint isn't a big issue.

It has been stored inside forever, no corrosion, no damage, missing first set of logs, current owner bought in early 60's with 100 hours TT and wasn't able to get the logs.

Is it a money pit, or something to try to buy? It isn't for sale now, but I think it will be in the next couple of years. Thanks

First off you have an engine overhaul, then a prop overhaul, all avionics would have to be touched, and the instruments would probably have to be gone thru. Rubber such as motor mounts have to be replaced. Upholstery, probably to be replaced. Updates on the panel might be considered. Electric would have to be checked-regulator and generator, and wiring. If you are doing the work yourself, it might be a fun project. I just finished a C-185 and it is rewarding.

Last year we let a similar one go because the guy was stuck on trying to get 40k for it, and the most we wanted to pay was $30k. I figured by the time I got it really airworthy, new engine, prop, all rubber, radio's, interior, and so on....we spend about 60-70k+ on it. It finally sold for 27k, after we did something different.
Sounds like you got the base, low time and not abused, for a nice project!

Thanks for the replies, I didn't mention that it is currently and always has been annual, so it isn't a project in that sense. The trade a plane evaluator comes out around 55-60, depending how you work the numbers.

400 looks and 2 replies--come on, anybody else???

I just bought a 1957 C-180. It has 4000 TT, with a 475 since Factory Remain engine. It has basic vfr instruments and one old radio. The plane is straight and I knew both the owner and the mechanic. It is in need of a paint job in the worst way.......... It does several mods, dodge seats, extended baggage, etc...... I paid $74,000.

I sold my 1975 Supercub with 1750 on the original engine for $66,000.

Now, I have a plane that goes 140 MPH, can haul my whole family in one trip, and still work out of 600 feet. I did add 29 inch Bushwheels.

Life is good.
