VGs vs Rate of Climb

I have recently installed Micro VGs. I recently flew a mission involving more climbing than I usually do and was surprised I was down on my expected Rate of Climb. Yes, I was heavy and Im now rolling 29" ABWs; but I expected more. Im trying to figure out if it is related to the VG installation. (I think i already know the answer- ABWs drag..?)

Does anyone have any data on Climb performance pre/post VGs?

Wish I had been a bit more technical and got some data before/after my mods rather relying on 'memories'

In theory the VGs will delay boundary layer separation at Vx, reducing drag and improving Vx climb gradient. Conversely Vy is off the power required curve, at a much lower angle of attack, and the VGs will be causing some slight parasite drag, although Vy is pretty close to Vmd for propeller aircraft, and any drag increase should be minimal - in short VGs should not be improving RoC, just angle of climb. Your ABWs are therefore the likely culprit.

Send me some formation photos and will I will analyse your problem Binty
