ti gear for maule

hotrod180

FRIEND
Port Townsend, WA
A guy I know who owns an MX7-180 told me the other day he was planning on betting a titanium tailspring.
That sounded spendy & I asked him why he was doing that-- he told me it would eliminate or at least help with his aft CG problem.
I googled it but couldn't find anything for a maule, although of course I found TLGW's ti gear for cessna's
as well as ti gear from Airframes Alaska for cubs.
??

The guy wants to move the CG forward.
I don't know for sure, but I'd guess the T3 set-up weighs even more than the standard leaf springs.
Where is the battery located on the 180 hp Maule? Could that be moved forward for CG purposes?

Yes, and this thread showed up when I tapped the "new posts" button on the forums page.
Maybe cuz others had posted on it?

T3 5.2lb for single shock and 6.6lb for duel shock

That was my thought also--
get rid of the G25 or 35 sized battery (wherever it is)
and put an Odyssey (or EarthX) on the firewall.
Dunno if anyone ever does that with a Maule though.

4 pounds at the tail is significant for WB Removing weight from a firewall mounted batterie goes the wrong way for WB althoug lighter is better in most cases

I’ve never seen a wheel geared Maule with an aft CG problem. Hmmmm

After installing all the lightweight bits and Sensenich propeller on the engine of my cub the C of G moved back a fair bit.

The Ti tail spring brought it back - tail comes up nice and the ti spring has a much more compliant ride on rough ground.

Painful on the wallet but a great mod for my cub. I would try one on my 180 Hp maule if they would make one.
