Torch
GONE WEST
Fairbanks, Alaska
I have been out fishing twice now. The last time I went I got my line broke on 3 of the first 4 fish I hooked. Wound up catching about a dozen mofawker trouts, all over 20 inches. Tonight I may be headed back if the thunderstorms don't get in the way. Tonight I will try to get a vid and post it of the landing on the trout lake. Here is the first one of those trout I caught this year. Now you all can see the fly I use. Big blue ant pattern. Black works too. I catch these big fish laying up in the shallows. They get up in the shallows waiting for the huge dragon flies to come by. The fish literally jump completely out of the water to eat the dragon flies as they fly by them. It is fun to watch the fish. Once a big trout does that though I know where he is hiding out. I just paddle over and it usually only takes one cast. Fights on then. This trout was a really old guy. His tail fin was showing some age. I released him unharmed. I use barbless hooks.
Last night while at the float pond in Fairbanks after some touch and goes on the pond I got the pleasure of meeting Ted Alaska Flyer (Supercub.org member) and his wife. Very nice folks and I enjoyed talking about airplanes with them. If anyone is ever through Fairbanks I park on the northeast end of the float pond. You can't miss the Torch.
Summer is here and you all have to put up with my trout/grayling fishing expeditions.
