I just installed Steve's oil cooler on my C90 powered Experimental PA18-95. My oil temperature has been consistently quite high. When the temp would reach 220 the oil pressure would drop into the yellow range. Temp often went to the redline of 225, pressure would start fluctuating making me nervous enough to land immediately. This after only a 30 to 40 minute flight during warm days.
I mounted the oil cooler on the left side of the firewall then ran #6 lines to Steve's adapter which screws onto the oil filter adapter. I used a scat tube from the rear baffle to the cooler. Cessna uses a 3 inch, I used a 2 3/4 inch I had lying around, however, it was attached to the existing 2 inch flange on the baffle. Steve recommends at least a 2 3/4 inch, I ordered 3 inch parts today.
It was 85 degrees today, I flew for and hour, the oil temp never got over 200, it stayed at 195 in cruise, went to 200 during a long climb, then back to 195 again at cruise. Best news is the oil pressure stayed in the high green the entire flight
Steve's advertises a 30 degree drop during there tests, I concur. The installation was very straight forward with excellent instructions. The workman ship is outstanding. I highly recommend this if having oil temp problems with the C series Continentals. It is STC'd.
