Steve's Gascolator

If anyone is not operating their Supercub with a Steve's gascolator, I would recommend they do so promptly.
The things are outstanding. The only weak point I see is the quick drain most of us install. A flush one would be more desirable, altho not as handy.

Ive got one on my C180, it's a very nicely made unit.
The only gripe I have is that the bowl is hard to get on or off--
it's difficult to get ahold of to turn it since the gascolator sits in kind of a notch in the firewall.
It would be handy if the bowl had a hex formed into the bottom, where the quick drain attaches,
so I could use a socket to turn it.

It should not be that hard. I have them on the 185 and the PA-18 and don't have that problem. Maybe some DC4 on the oring?

How about a homemade strap wrench?

I have a drawing for just that. Contacted my primary at the FAA, would have to make it a completely different part number and not a minor change to the regular bowl part number. Therefore every assembly with that bowl would also have a different assembly number, and all of those would have to be certified again for each individual model aircraft it could be used on.

And on, and on, and on, and well, I'm sure you get the picture. They do not make it easy, and the cost to just add a simple hex makes it not worthwhile since the current design still works well.

FAA red tape getting in the way of progress or improvement...
I get it, and I sure can't blame you for not making the change.
