Steps for EDO 2000 floats

I have a set of EDO 2000 floats set up for a PA-18. The floats use the "old style" struts with transition fittings bolted and riveted into the ends of the streamline tubes.

The "door side" struts have holes drilled for a step rail - but the rail was not included with the floats.

Does anyone know of a source for the triangular aluminum extrusion used for the step rail? Yes, I can get the material from Kenmore - but it is very expensive.

Also, is drilling the struts the typical way of installing the step? Seems like clamps would be preferred over drilling.

Finally, any photos showing typical installation and and end view of the step rail would be much appreciated!

Contact Javron for the length of material you desire. https://javronaviation.com

These are their standard extended steps for land landing gear. Ask him to cut what ever length you want.

I have the same style struts as in these photos: https://www.supercub.org/forum/show...-pod-on-floats&p=717304&viewfull=1#post717304

Does anyone know if the strut clamps shown in the picture can still be found?
A lot of those clamps are of the "make your own" variety. Those round steps can be easy to slip off of. Best to get some step material from Javron and then make some clamps to suit. Your strut material could be prone to crushing by squeezing it with bolts.

Bolt, (AN-3 or 4), through drilled hole is standard.

Round is not a good idea, and find some good paint and put on thick, then sprinkle some sand on the paint to give it a ROUGH surface. You want the sand bumps sharp for traction.

Randolph Wing Walk is your friend. Easier than screwing around with paint and dirt.

Seems like Atlee Dodge float steps used to be the standard. Couldn’t find them in the catalog today. They attached with a bolt through the gear leg.

Typical steps are made at home variety 2x2x1/8" aluminum angle stock (or larger per loads expected). Proper bolt sized to attach to strut through holes in both. Flatten hole area some on angle to better face head of bolt. Put piece of metal tubing over bolt shank between angle and strut for support when tightening hardware. Cushion metal contact areas with something to reduce wear. Put non-skid deck tape or paint on angle. Fly.

Edit: Some place one flat side of the "V" angle against the strut, angle up. If they don't bend it works just as well. But mine have so went with "V" against strut.
