For what it would cost for the mods i.e. Weight upgrade, IO-320 Upgrade and Engine...Take the extra money and negotiate with someone that has a Super Cub for sale the way ya want it! There are many SuperCubs on the market that are not fetching the over 100k that many seem to think they are worth...I have seen the some of the same ones listed for a very long time..
I did it that way and ended up with a gorgeous 1994 Piper Super Cub..
So do your homework...

Sounds like a solid clean little flyier. If it was a good restoration as you mentioned I would say between 45 and 55K. The radios are almost worthless. Your need an encloder if going into bravo. When you get over 55 you can start looking at stock 150's from the late 60's that are fliers but will need recover in a few years.

What is the ask? More I would guess. Not to long ago there was a highly modified 160 18 with floats in anc for 68K. If it's convenient to purchase and its a good solid rebuild even high 50's would still be fair. I would still have an independent expert look at the airplane for completeness and records. The fact that it is a fresh rebuild does make it attractive. Just get in and fly. But it never works out that way so the extensive annual /prebuy is almost manditory. That's how it looks from Florida.

Several unmodified "tango" cubs sold a couple of years ago for between $33 and $45 K. Empty weight on the one here is 850#, and the only thing wrong with it is those toe brakes, which seem to affect the way the rudders move when airborne.

They are not designed for hauling moose out of Alaska - they are for fun! And will perform almost as well as the 150 hp variety, when loaded for fun, like with a pilot and half gas. For real bush flying, power cannot be beat, but with gas at $4.00/gal, that 5 1/2 gph engine will make you smile.

Find an unmodified one at a low price - or get a PA-11 or a Legend Cub!

If you absolutely must, the Wag Aero one covers both and includes the 105 sp in a letter from the FAA.

105 special

Hi Eric

Maybe I can shed some light on what your looking at. About one year ago I bought a 105 special also. Stock, without a motor. I wanted one to rebuild from the ground up and then put a larger motor in it. I found out by doing just what your doing now, asking alot of guys on this web site what there thoughts were about one. The toe breaks are easy to replace with heel brakes, when the time comes. As far as the rest of the plane is just fly the heck out of it. Thats a great little motor, and cheap to fly. Run on car gas, you will be laughing at the rest of us. Even without flaps there fun and great to fly. If the price is right Eric, it would be a great plane to have. You can modify it later if you need to. Build up some time first. Stay in touch so we can chat about those 105 specials.
