STC for Rear Mount Oil Cooler?

I need help! I've got a STC to put an 0-290-D2 in my PA-12 which says I have to use the PA-18 engine baffles but the oil cooler mounts on the front cowling that is going to require a modification to the cowling which I don't want to do. I want to be able to move the cooler to the rear baffle. Does anyone know of a STC or way that will allow me to add the cooler to the rear baffle and still comply with the original STC?

I know Cub Crafters has an STC for the PA18. I would talk to my FAA inspector and see if you can make a deviation from the original STC and install the cooler on the rear baffle like the PA18 STC from CC and a lot of the other certified airplanes out there. I have done it on short wings with a field approval without any problems.

Cub Crafters will only sell its entire kit - not the stc alone. At least that was Cub Crafters position on a PA-18 about a year ago. Try Charlie Center at www.crosswindsstol.com. Charlie has an STC for rear mount oil cooler for PA-18 and was willing to sell just the STC. He also is considered the PA-12 guru in these parts of the woods and may have what you are looking for. Install a sutton exhaust and the rear oil cooler is part of that approval.

It's hard to imagine how tight it fits but it does.

I bought Charlie Centers STC for the -18 and then Field Approved it on my -12. That was the only way the FSDO was going to approve it as Charlie was protesting FAA doing field approvals of what he has a STC for, at least here in our local area.

The STC is just the paperwork, two lines, a baffling doubler and a scoop for the bottom cowl. You need to be real careful about the motor mount for the long-mounts on -12s as it can interfere with the lines. We had to get creative with some AN fittings, and ended up making different lines to have a clean installation and no interference from the motor mount.
