Folks-

How hard would it be for me to turn the sliding window into a one piece window for the winter? Are the sliding windows hard to remove?

EASY!

PA-18? some #4 PK screws are holding the upper slider "channel" to the frame above the windows. Slide the windows forward, remove the aft screws, slide the windows aft and remove the front screws. Tip the top of the windows inboard into the cabin, then lift them out of the lower channel.

I hope this description makes sense.

......orrrr......come up with a cool latching system to keep the window SHUT. ANyone got a cool latching system? D

ask scooter7779h on here, he did a one piece window from windshield back, including round rear window we re-did his 12 in 96.... I think

Do you have an outer door handle on your main door or are you just planning on leaving those open---just curious. This is on an 18?

Mike you are right, I first did it in about 1980, then we replaced it with new when you built it up in 1996. Originally, I made a pattern out of poster board, then had the local glass company make a plexiglass one-piece custom. No air leaks for sure!

Good note, when you guy's redo your lower door take a allen headed screw that takes a 3/16 / 1/4 allen wrench and cut the head off of the screw and weld it to the center of the bellcrank inside your lower door on the side facing outward when closed, after you cover it melt a small hole that lines up with the welded on allen screw head and you now have a key ( allen wrench ) to open the door from the outside instead of opening the left window and reaching in to open the door.

This modified paper clip worked well for me.

We stuck velcro on to make a little peel-and-stick latch. 8) I will try to remember to get a picture (not that's it's rocket surgery to figure out :roll: )

And while you are at it, put a slide block on the outside of the front window so you have something to grab onto to slide the window open :roll:
