SHOW ME YOUR PANEL - Re-wiring my cub

Nut plate help for all

Kind of an un-related "show me your panel" question. I'm planning a flush install of an Air Gizmo Panel Dock for my Garmin 796. This would make a great access to the back of the panel if it's installed with nut-plates for ease of access. My problem is I also want to panel mount a compass card so I'm trying to go as un-magnetic as possible. (It's probably irrelevant for a steal tube airplane install but that's just the way I am.) I can't find a stainless nut-plate anywhere and I'm not too fond of riv-nuts. Any other suggestions?

Hey all, I know the above post is a bit dated but at least it’s 2021. see attached. Note the yellow highlighted spots, corresponding chart has it all and help with sizes etc. All CRES (corrosion resistant steel), should be non magnetic. Some stainless is, some not as much. From my GAH “hardware bible” so to speak. Hope this helps someone. It pretty well covers what’s out there in the MS items. And yes, rivnuts pretty much suck.

Cheers, Oz

I have tried to go very simple. Trig units are remote heads with the main units below baggage bay.

Odyssey battery mod under P1 seat. The Talon mount on the left can accept anything you want to RAM mount.Power supplies under panel and P1 and P2 side

Only problem so far is that system over volts occasionally. New BnC small alternator.

It is a 200G fitted to an O-200. It trips in the cruise after 10-15 mins. It has. Started to do this a little more frequently. I have just seen another thread so I am investigating grounding before I buy a new VR.

I did take your advice about building her light.

The O.V. module is supposed to be set to trip at 16 volts. See if you can verify that. Also make sure the regulator has plenty of free air keeping it cool.

Web

Web insisted that I run an independent ground wire from alternator case to regulator case when I was experiencing overvoltage. He was right - cured the problem.

My alternator started to trip after 10-15 minutes also. I was camping in the Frank Church for a couple weeks. Flew out to get a mechanic to look at it. Diagnosis was the VR. Had a new one flown in overnight $$$$$$$. Replaced. Tripped again on the way back to camp. Had a buddy headed my way pick up a new alternator. Installed that and problem solved. When I got home I sent the old alternator in for repair. Diagnosis…….brushes were worn out. $10 worth of parts fixed that alternator. I’d spent over a grand chasing the issue out in the field. Check the brushes.

There are no 'brushes' in a sd-200 alternator. It's an AC generator only. The rotating, orange cap is the only moving part.

Bearhawk, Nice job , I'm doing a similar plan. I like your side panel fabric covering, could you tell me who your supplier is?

Blue Skies,
Denny

Sorry I missed this - It's Mordura ACS medium gray fabric glued to .020 aluminum. Comes with flammability test reports. jennisfabrics.com

Adding to the mix. NXCub panel upgrade, adding GNC355 while retaining the mode controller.
Out back is GTR20, GTX345, GMA24R. Hole on right is for float controller.
