Rudder Pedal Return Springs

Went to change the rudder pedal return springs on my 12 and noticed the springs I purchased from Univair were made in reverse of what the PA12 parts book shows. The wire that's welded to the bottom on the left side of each pedal to serve as a stop doesn't allow the spring to fit on that side. Univair says the pedals they have manufactured have the wire stop welded on the right side of their pedals. They said more than likely somewhere along the line Piper superseded the original pedals. Anybody got any ideas on what the fix is.
 
Not familiar enough with PA12 pedals but did have to fix a PA18 that the pedals were put in the wrong positions and the springs wouldn't work correctly. Fun job to pull everything out and put it back correctly. :o
 
Time to get the welder out.

On that note:

Since the Univair springs are a heavier gauge wire than original, you most likely will need to find a 1/8" carbide bit and carefully clean out the weld.

Here's a pic of mine. You can see my two front return springs. Click on the pic to blow it up and have a better look. Real simple, Real easy to do and you can get them at the local hardware store. They work GREAT and never STICK like Pipers. Same on the back pedals, attached at a 45 to the floor, you just need to make a clamp for the pedal and screw a tab to the floor. I'll take a pic tomorrow if you want one.

I didn't know that Steve, I'm not as savvy with the past stuff as a lot of you guys here are :D . I've only learned what I know along the way and that ain't a hell of a lot. But I learn something new everyday from you guys. Thanks!

Cleveland(best guess) toe breaks appear to be overwhelming the rudder return springs causing rudder cable slack. I assume my option is to replace the return spring but am wondering if there is a stronger spring to overcome the heavier pedal situation. Pic attached for toe Break reference ?

I’ve never seen cub toe brakes like that.

There is a reason most rudder cables have a degree of slack in the Cubs. That slack is needed, specifically in the rear pedals. The slack is taken up with the width of my size 13 boots. Without the slack, it is very easy to get a winter-style boot jammed between the seat and cable. I had this happen with a big booted pax several years ago. Typical rear seat footwear must be considered when rigging these cables. Mine are rigged for my footwear, as I now spend most time in the rear seat instructing.
