Anybody have some good spots to land on the redriver north of DFW? I'm pretty new to the area I used to land on some gravel spots on the Brazos but am a little worried about the sand. I've got a PA-18-150 on 8:50's which i think are a little small for sand but not sure.

Lots of spots, it’s real soft sand in most spots unlike the brazos.

There are all kinds of spots on the Red over there. Be careful turning, do a sweeping turn, don't lock a brake and turn. I learned to land on gravel and sand bars on the Brazos river north of Possum Kingdom Lake and after several incidents on small tires installed bigger ones. We have several hard packed gravel bars that small tires work on you just have to pay a little more attention. If you come out this way I have the only two hangars on the east side of RPH. be glad to give you a tour.

The Red River is pretty much all sand, some of it very soft. There are some good spots north of Gainesville, nothing much east of Lake Texoma. The Red has been up lately from the rain in the Panhandle. It can take a while to dry out once the water level drops. Quicksand happens. Get bigger tires.

Red River sand is really fine grained and soft, much like the Arkansas I fly. Be very careful on 8:50's stick all the way in your gut and keep your feet off the brakes and if there hasn't been rain recently go find some grass to play on instead (one of the area clubs had a 150-hp champ on 8.50's learn that lesson the hard way last year).
