Since we no longer have an official Rant & Rave forum I would like to post one here.
Recently I became aware of Registered Users not being Members of sc.org and I have watched a number of postings and ratios
of RU's vs. Members. When I checked today sc.org had 16 members logged on........at that same time sc.org had 233 Registered Users logged on.
Take a look at those numbers folks. They should be swapped the other way around don't you think?
My hat is off to sj and all the contributing members who share their knowledge and experiences every single day. They do this, not for themselves, but
to help out the aviation community that frequents this website.

I am confident that everyone who has registered or logged on to sc.org has received information that they have used to their benefit. Yes, there are registered users who contribute, but they also receive much more than they give. It's time for those of you who take to have a little conversation with your conscience...........and do what's right. Time to become a member............it's 25 bucks a year.......but it's worth is invaluable. Join today !

^^^^….. I typically don’t have much to say, but have gained tons of info from reading the posts on here. Big help from wirewinnie whom no longer posts unfortunately. Become a member and help support this forum! Sh!t, if you read Bill Rusk building a Javron Cub thread you owe him at least ten years of membership!!!

233 Registered Users might be 230 bots, no?
Bots don't register, they just scrape what they can. Unregistered users can be bots, but we block most except for the main search engine bots - google, etc.

@cubdrvr is our new director of marketing... :)

A couple clarifications, basic membership is $35 not $25

It is confusing, but the below would indicate 20 registered users and 212 non-registered (or non-logged in) users. "supporting membership" is not actually shown on the forum screen as that is a custom system.

As always, I'm greatly appreciative of those who support the site. We get beat up all year long to join this or that by all kinds of places. I try to do the crux of that at the end of the year so it is in a limited time frame and folks are not getting beat over the head all the time. I am also getting better at just beating up non-members :)

I also have to consider that supporting the site is not compelling to some folks. They don't think there is enough value here - something I am working to try to improve upon, but some folks will never feel there is.

I was reminded recently that we might not know what situation a person is in and they might feel bad about visiting if they can't come up with the money to support it, or have some other principle that keeps them from doing so. No one in those situations should feel bad - even if you own two airplanes and three new cars.

One last thing on this: We do not offer auto-renew on memberships, nor do we store your credit card information. I am hesitatant to try donate or buy services knowing it might be hard to stop it once they turn on auto-renew by default. I would prefer it if everyone made a decision each year about whether they want to continue or not.

Thanks again, everybody!

Hey guys,
Registered member here. Heard about supercub.org at the Oshkosh presentation "Build your own Super Cub." The reality with the aircraft and non-aircraft projects I've got queued up is that I won't start a Super Cub project for at least a couple of years. So I'm not ready to support, and I should be focusing on my other projects. I'll log off and delete my bookmark. Sorry for the trouble.

I don't think anyone is referring to folks like you. I myself am referring to people who have been here for years and gotten all kinds of personalized help but chose not to join. A recent user got help in finding someone to do a pre+buy and hopefully researched other things prior to his purchase. I hope he feels the need to be a paying member.

Just send in twenty-five bucks and stay.
Cheap for what you can glean here....
hell, it's worth $25 just for the entertainment value.

Post #2 has the secret. And our host sj makes a lot of sense.

Guys like Steve Pierce and Hotrod are also deserving of compensation - they ceaselessly offer help - and instead of being compensated for it, they pay for the privilege. I don’t mean to single out just those two - Rusk, MCS MIke, Wireweenie - a bunch of folks have helped me immensely over the years. I remember saving ten grand on a 180 empennage overhaul because some nice participant steered me to oversized bolts. It is this community that makes sj’s efforts so valuable.

If I want to feel guilty, I think of Timothy Snyder, Sam Harris, or Marcy Wheeler, among others, who individually do all the research and publish - for free.

- Challenge -

Yes, Post #2
Got me to thinking how much I would pay to have access to this info.

So I upped my contribution to $100 - and a CHALLENGE -

IF 10 PEOPLE increase their contribution to $100 or more in the next 30 days - I will up mine to $1,000
(if you are already at $100, then $250)

SJ can you confirm status change?

I am not even a Super Cub guy anymore - and have learned a ton, just this year.

Take a picture of your "user status" before and after and message it to me with the little envelope up at the top of the page /\ .

Do you accept this CHALLENGE??

But Bob,…under your name it says “Registered User”.

Each to their own. I’ll voice some thoughts and be the odd man out perhaps. If this changes your viewpoint of me I can deal with it. :)

I enjoy SJ’s effort to ask for subscribers, take what he can and hope to do better each year.

I’ve had years that I couldn’t justify sending money, let alone put fuel in an airplane. And I’ve had years where I tried to pay extra. And like most campfires, hangar sessions and flights, I’m sure I’ve learned more than I could share.

It’s also a fine line between helping others because you can, and asking them to purchase your help. This is an unanswer-able and largely rhetorical question, but at one point does a discussion with others become hired help? (Please don’t try to answer that)

There are forums & groups that require membership, et al, to participate. I don’t belong to any as i don’t believe in it. If supercub.org was that way I expect I would not be. Perhaps in the years to come I can offer some sort of help to others, as others have done for me.

I see forums like this working just for that reason. It’s a payback/payforward account, how ever you want to word it.
John helped Mike. Mike helped Jim, and Jim will help Tom. Why? Well because they can.

And at the same time I’ve seen people get disgusted and hang up the connection here because “the group” wasn’t very nice to questions or someone’s opinion. Not everyone voices their opinion and naturally every once in a while no one should. But everyone should question how they would interact with others in person, if the keyboard wasn’t the medium.

I gave money to SJ this year to help out. And I thank him, and all of you on here that interact and give back or pay forward. But it’s not always that way. Just saying.
