Question on aluminum wing bow and fabric.

I have to replace a 14" piece of curved aluminum from my right wing tip. This is a 1955 Supercub that was rebuilt in the Colorado Springs area- possibly Meadow Lake (FLY). Univar and Cub Crafters cannot figure it out. The missing piece is nearer to the trailing edge of the rounded wing tip. Just went through a tornado on the beach-( straight floats held down by earth anchors). My left rear strut is bent and will be needing replacement. Hail damage on the wings is requiring a new fabric job on the wings. I am located in Traverse City, MI. KTVC.

So, I would appreciate info on:
Where to find these aluminum wing parts that were done in CO.
Recommendations on fabric work in Northern MI.
Anyone have extra struts? These are not lifetime struts. I may just buy a new one from Univar.

Thanks in advance for your ideas. Sorry no pics yet.

Wing tip bows are ash. I have seen people use conduit, aluminum tubing etc. The original ash tip bows work great cause they will bounce back if not hit really hard. Do you have stock type round wings?

I gave a nice set of Super Cub struts to some folks here in SAN. I can check with them - they are storing them for spares.

It will be a lot easier and better to go back to the original configuration. Almost any competent fabric shop can do that for less than it would cost to fix some strange mod. And as Steve says, the Ash bows are real protection.

You bent a lift strut, and the wing spar survived? You can cold-straigten an aluminum wing spar outboard of the strut fitting.

Depending on the location of the strut bend and your preference, the strut can be repaired. See AC 43:13.

Steve,

My wing tips are rounded. They do not have the wooden bows. The wing tips are aluminum and not all one piece. I was trying to locate the missing rounded piece of 14" curved aluminum and attach it like the other wing. Then, recover with fabric. I will be in the same town as the plane in 3-4 days for pics. Thanks

If you are willing to sell one of those struts let me know. I have a son living there. I have been to Gillespie and Montgomery many times.
I will have an A&P check out the entire plane and spar. Thanks- bpdds@aol.com.
