Indeed! What's the story on it?
There's an entry in Wikipedia on it if you want the "rest of the story", but the short version is it's a failed "planned community" from the early 1900's. It was land speculators from back east - who had never even seen the land - trying to convince people that this could be Ohio. Which it could never be - there is a reason it's called the Great Basin Desert. This is still going on to this day around here. If it weren't for speculators land around here would be danged near free.

Why do all the houses in West Texas have turrets ?

Speaking of airway markers. here is one made from native rocks out in the Arizona desert we found a few months ago. Notice the North pointing arrow and the town name Salome with an arrow pointing to it. These I believe are from the WWII training years. North West of Phoenix.

Here is part of one that is only 6 or 8 miles from the first picture. Interesting to me that the stones have been virtually undisturbed for all these years.

This place ( green roof) went in a few years ago, I've been landing the upper reaches, 8600', of the ridge for 15 years, winter and summer, so I watched it progress. Off grid, though on a big budget, and still building. By now it's owner is probably wondering who flies that small plane that always rocks it's wings as it flies by (and never too close, as I suspect these people like their privacy), well, if they would call me for crane service setting trusses on that new foundation I saw, we could get aquainted! As far up as it is, I'd thought it was Forest Service or BLM ground, but I guess not, 800 to 1000"

I can understand wanting to be out away from nearly everything but this takes the cake. Is that the Oregon trail going by? Perhaps the builder was expecting a super highway to go in and wanted to take advantage of the increased property values?

Some of us just can't get far enough away. It costs a lot extra to live remote - but after 60 years of people and cities - it's worth every penny. Mind you it's nothing like Alaska - but it's pretty cool

Please excuse photo - taken last year - or maybe year before during the fire season so there's a bunch of smoke. Nearest permanent structure to my stuff is almost two miles away. It's too close but this was all I could afford.

Had a buddy with a place that use to be away from everyone. He like long range target practice. Kept having to move his range because people kept buying property around him and moving in. He finally sold out and moved back here on his families place with lots of land and intersecting grass strips.
