Place to receive and reassemble a Supercub from a Container (USA Atlantic side)

Help. I am planning to bring my Supercub back from Europe and I need to plan for a place to ship in to reassemble, repair, and inspect the airplane. I am looking for a recommendation so I can start figuring out the plan. I am open to a location as long as it is relatively close to a port of entry somewhere on the Atlantic side of the US. The plane is N registered so there isn’t a need to switch certifications. Help would be appreciated. After inspection I would be flying it up to New York state, but a longer journey is not an issue.
 
I’d think time of year might factor into the equation: if your plane is coming over in January I’d rather be re-assembling a plane in Florida, but if it’s coming over in July I think I’d want Hampton Roads. Regardless of the time of year, I don’t think I’d ever want a New York / New Jersey port.

If there’s flexibility in your calendar I think shipping it to Florida in September would be good, and I’d try to find someone at Spruce Creek with hangar space. I know a person who lives there and can connect you if you like.

Why do you say Hampton Roads? Do you think that would be cheap or is there another factor? I used to live around West Palm Beach so I am familiar with the part of Florida you mentioned but I don’t have contacts.
 
I’ve dropped at the Baltimore port quite a bit but I’ve never thought about logistics for airplane assembly.
I assume you are trying to _not_ have the container hauled very far to unload? I don’t think it would be irrational to consider having it hauled a distance to a hangar of your choice. NYS ?

I assume you can’t unload a container in the port and haul it out on your trailer but perhaps you can? If that’s the plan bear in mind the cash fees needed - you either need a TWIC card or you pay a guy at the gate to “ride along and watch you get frustrated” while inside the port. And you’re on the bottom of the list in the dispatch shack for the union guys to show you where your container is. I’ve waited an hour for them to simply point to a space to unhook a trailer.

For my overseas shipments Baltimore and Savannah ports were the best locations for shipping costs.

In Savannah the guy that comes to mind is Jay Stanford. Not terribly far and may be able to help. You’d have to discuss costs with him.

From Baltimore I’d have to dig a bit for guys with capacity. Couple in southeast PA.

Honestly, truck shipment in the US doesn’t worry me much. The shipment to a port does worry me. It is nice to hear your feedback on a couple ports.
 
If coming in to Savannah, I would recommend Jay Stanford too. If he can't get to it, I might be able to work you in here, I'm 250 miles from Savannah. ........... just south of Atlanta. Do you know what all the plane might need?

If your plane is coming over during the hottest part of the year I’d want to be assembling it in a relatively cooler location. Hampton Roads is likely to be hot in the summer, but the Florida and Georgia ports will be much hotter.
 
Get your hangar and have the container dropped off at the hangar. I’ve done that several times when shipping the other way, they drop the container, fill it up and they pick up a day or two later.
 
My advice is to have it delivered to your hangar. The carrier should be able to do a "hot off-load", meaning the driver takes a snooze as you unload the aircraft (They most likely will prefer this). The last aircraft container shipment we did was a "hot load" (2020) and although I was skeptical of the "hot load" concept (driver waiting), it worked fine. That container went out of the Port of Newark I believe. Unloading is obviously quicker than the packing and wrapping of loading. TR
 
I live close to you NY destination and agree with having shipped direct to your NY spot. Lots of assembly help around here.
