PA-18 Extended & Upper Bagagge

I have a completely open extended baggage and upper baggage ares. Tail is completly open with exposed control cables etc. It's easy to get in and inspect but gets cold and drafty in the back and I'm a bit nervous about load shift moving into the tail or the dog crawling back there and messing something up. Small wooden shelf up top holds the ELT tray and battery box. I would like to enclose both but haven't seen any parts manufactured specifically for exclosing the the extended baggage or a new upper baggage shelf. Have seen some excellent photos from you guys who are building your own airplanes. Are these parts all custom fabricated and made to fit the specific airplane? What kinds of material are you guys using to fab these parts? Is it possible to modify the upper/lower areas without pulling the fabric?

Thanks

DK

Atlee dodge has a small slide I extended baggage

or you can make a flu size one and clamp it in, then it's just a minor mod

Someone on this site was building one that will slide in around the dogleg (Either the standard or the inverted). It looked pretty nice. Unfortunately I have been all over this site doing my own research and could not tell you where I saw it.
Cheers

Great info! Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. The slide in carbon fiber tub idea is brilliant. Can't say I have seen any of these around. For the guys out there who are building your own baggage, what kind of material are you using? Sheet metal? Kydex? Plastic? Composite?

Some airplanes just have a piece of canvas laced to the tubing across the back of the baggage area. This is sized/shaped to block any forward moving drafts. The lower pressure area in the cabin draws air in from the tail.

attachment-1.webpattachment.webpUpper baggage bag I had sew up to fit through the original batterry door. I am replacing the standard type "upper bg." Mod with a more stock looking setup. The bag will be lighter than framing in an upper baggage compartment and I will be able to pull the bag to clean it or use as a pack with a set of straps.
