PA 12 Under Seat Battery STC

Hi All,

I have purchased a PA 12 that I am importing into Canada. The airplane has the battery under the front seat, which I understand is a pretty popular mod on the PA 18.

I have been able to locate the STC for the PA 18 (and 19) but have hit a dead end with the PA12. I have looked in the documentation and there is no 337 for this aircraft for the battery location change.

Can anyone help me? The ideal situation would be to find an applicable STC.

Thanks

Brian

usually use atlles -18 tray & stc if -18 seat frame, and deviate from there for a field approval... no -12 STC that i can think of off hand....

Have Steve @ atlee give you a letter of deviation to use the data.

I strongly recommend reading through the inspectors handbook, there is a nice flow chart for this stuff.

Thanks for the leads.

Stewart, my seat may be a PA 18 seat. Is there a definitive way to tell? I will also be looking for any info that says FA Dodge on the battery tray. Just in case, can you forward me a copy of the approval/deviation?

BehindPropellers, Thanks for your input, I will call Steve on Monday.

the 18 seat and base are separate, and adjustable front to back, 12 seat is rigid, non-adjustable.

atlees tray is stainless steel with name stamped in it.

Update

It appears that I am able to move the battery to the luggage compartment using a generic battery box and still conform to the regulations.

Not an ideal situation, but certainly one that saves $$. The STC for the PA18 with a deviation was not acceptable.

Stewart, with this new info, I won't need a copy of your STC and deviation, but thanks for the offer.

If anyone wants any further info, you can PM me.
