Guys-

I am working on the J-5, Since I could not get a new J-5 cabane I used the PA-12 cabane made by atlee dodge. I am also replacing the bungee struts with struts with hydrosorbs. Do I need a special length tube assembly? Or can I just use the standard PA-18 part, shock strut, PN 12844? The gear is standard length gear.

Tim

Tim you need the PA-12/14 shock strut tube.

Atlee has 'em in stock, even for 3" extended gear on a -12

My 12's Dakota Airframe is now equipped with 3" extended gear by Airframes, shock struts by Atlee, and guess what? Atlee's cabane for PA-18 gear on a PA-12 will not fit. Dakota Airframe builds their own cabane vees. Don't assume Atlees cabane will fit your Dakota frame. It probably won't.

Ahh Stewart....I took your advice and bought an Atlee cabane and sent it to Gerry when he repaired my fuselage, so I have ONE standard part on it. All he messed up was the PA-18 seat mount, jackscrew, and door, and drilled all of the 3/16" holes 1/4" and...Ill stop now.
