We are trying to get the fuselage on our PA-12 project ready to cover and checking so see that everything is working correctly.
There seems to be an issue with the rear brake/rudder pedal layout. The distance from the rudder pedal to brake pedal is more than I think it should be. Your heels hit the brakes with any movement of the rudder pedals. It will be awkward to have to push with your tip toes to keep off the brakes.
It looks like one reason is that the brake cylinder on a PA-12 is mounted about 1 1/2" farther back than on PA-18s that I measured (and probably other cubs too). I used to fly a PA-11 from the back seat alot and don't remember the brakes being anything like this.
Anybody had this problem before? is it normal? is there a way to make it more like other cubs?
My only thought so far is to make-up new rudder cables with the rear cables a little shorter and the front cables the same amount longer. That would pull the rear pedals back some.
Any advice will be appreciated.
