PA-12 prop

Hi guys,
I'm a new PA-12 owner with an unserviceable prop. Lots of good information on the Sensenich wood 80-44 and the Borer 82-41 on this site. Anyone had both on a PA-18/12, and do you have a preference? If you had to buy a new prop what option would you choice (about the same price). I'm operating on a 1500' dirt strip at sea level with a 150HP 18-flaps/tail. Thanks in advance.

Ray the borer prop is an excellent climb prop and therefore great for floats but not very fast. If you don't have extended gear on your 12 I don't know if you would have enough ground clearance. L.P.

I have a Wood Sensenich 80/40 (4-sale if your interested?) and Aluminum Sensenich 74/50, and the Aluminum prop out performs the wood in almost every way.

The wood prop is smoother, feels nicer and is almost half the weight of the aluminum and frankly looks a lot better. However, the aluminum prop spin up faster, pulls harder, climbs as well or better and cruises faster. And, you can fly in the rain without worrying about it and you don't have to re-torque it all the time.

1500' at sea level with good approaches, I'd just get a standard length Aluminum prop, and bend it until you have the performance you want and enjoy a decent cruise speed. Or, if going slow doesn't bother you, get the Borer.

My opinion.

Piper knew what they were doing with the 74 56 Sensenich Aluminum stock supecub prop. Good climb good cruise. Or for just a little more pull the sea plane version of this one. 52 I think.

Does the borer 82 41 out perform the wood 80 40 pitch prop in take off performance? Anybody tested the two?

I think you will find the 82 41 is too much, and wouldn't be surprised if you find you like an 82 42 or 82 43 better. As WSH says, keep bending it until you like it. I think you'll like it even more if you have it dynamically balanced afterwards.

Thanks for the advice, think I'm leaning towards the Borer 82/42 based on Speedo's advice. I would still like to talk to WSH concerning his 80/84, WSH please give me a call when you get a chance.
