PA-12 Project

I am helping Marc Olson's widow Jean sell the aircraft that Marc was in the middle of repairing when he passed away. You will know it from SC as the "Freightliner" formerly belonging to Tim Randall. It is located here in the Seattle area. The aircraft was damaged in a nose-over landing incident on a sandbar, 5/05. The wings been repaired and, along with all controls, have been done thru Stitts silver. The fuselage has a bent longeron and needs recover, new windscreen and motor mount and cowling repairs. The O-320 (160HP) has been freshly overhauled by Avion in Bremerton ($15K value w/ new crank, etc. installed). New borer prop too. This will be a top $$ PA-12 when finished. Expect to put about an additional $25K to get it to that point. It has great paperwork w/ a lot of STC's & 337 Field Approvals you can't get easily anymore. All the AK mods you want!

PA-12 Fuselages

In regards to what Univair is planning on doing with PA-12 fuselages, we plan on building them. However, these fuselages were built under PMA approvals. When we purchased the projects the PMAs cannot be transfered, they must be re-applied for. This takes time and a bunch of hand holding with the FAA. Only in recent weeks have we actually received these approvals. So what is the hold up now? Well, there are some design changes we want to make and tooling changes to get things the way we want to build fuselages. It took us several months after we bought the PA-18 fuselage project before we started making deliveries. It wasn't because we were not doing anything. We were making some refinements to the product. That is what we are doing now to the PA-12 project. When we do start making deliveries, we will have a product that we know the customer will be satisfied with.

You might put a picture of the plane in the classified ads section where it will get more attention. Generally I try to keep advertising out of the forums but this is certainly a special case, and good info from Univair!

I was hesitant to make the post, but hadn't gotten any hits from just the classified listing. I do have a picture on the classified of it flying 'inverted' under the helicopter that plucked it off the river bar. I don't have many other pictures as Marc didn't get to fly this one very long. Don't know if there are any of Tim Randall's photos remaining in the gallery. I've talked to Tim and he'd be glad to give anyone seriously interested any background details on the aircraft as he knows it best having owned it before Marc.
To those who have asked about price - offers considered. You can work it backwards from what will be worth when your done. I estimate if it went into a local shop today in present condition, it would roll out the door about $25K later. It will be a great PA-12-160 w/ 0 SMOH and all new fabric + lots of AK mods when it flies away.

Is the legendary Freightliner back in the air in the Puget Sound Region? I thought I saw it or its twin on Saturday, headed to the South Prairie fly-in.

My wife and I met Marc in his last summer. I don't think there was a more gracious human being.

Chris, I was honored to purchase Marc's Freightliner project Summer 2009, Mike Butterfield in Yakima finished it for me and when it came time to choose a color I said "paint it the same as it was before" and he did. N7755H is a wonderful flying and performing 12 and will reside in my hanger at Diamond Point for the duration. T
