PA-12 jury strut installation.

Got the wings on and rigged. Putting the jury struts on and realize there are options and adjustments to consider. 3 holes shifting for and aft to choose from, adjustment on the top of the front strut.

With out finding any guide we were looking to proceed as follows
Starting with leveled airframe.
  1. Bracket on front lift strut plumb under the wing attach point. (keeps the jury strut vertical)
  2. install front v onto this bracket and adjust top fitting up or down so front lift strut is straight.
  3. Use one of three holes fore or aft at top fitting to keep the lower horizontal portion of jury strut to rear lift strut height without deflecting rear strut once clamp is installed.
  4. Remove rear lift strut and slide bracket down to mate with the horizontal portion of the jury strut as the rear lift strut goes back in place.
  5. Adjust rear clamp so jury horizontal part is parallel to the airstream and no deflection in rear lift strut.
  6. Install the rear v brace.

Am I missing something? Anyone have a different process they use or advice?

Thanks

I've gone thru this a few times on my -12 and what you've written sounds good. It seems that one just has to keep monkeying with it until it "looks right" - struts straight and hopefully jury struts vertical. I've always put some tape around the struts underneath the clamps for anti-chafe.

Remove the anti-chafe strut tape periodically. I've had corrosion start under it. Not sure why maybe vibes and dirt mixed with water over time? Scotch 88 tape.

I've gotten to the point, I think ACF-50 works good in a situation like that. Maybe even on a Cessna strut with a step bracket clamped. Little messy but sure stop corrosion.

I suppose it's possible to scratch any strut when installing jury units or clamps. Like clamp it all down then find the lift strut is deflected sideways so move the clamp to straighten the main strut. Scratch.

They make a slick Teflon anti-chafe tape (say expensive, but?) for cowls. I had some on my boot cowl when I bought the problem and it appears to allow some movement of the overlapping engine cowl without chafing. Maybe some stuck to the jury clamp would be better than having it attached to the lift strut? Just asking.
