Oratex interior in a certified husky.

Yup. First post here. Maybe I did one years ago. And wrong airplane too.
But I have owned several PA-18s.
And on the site daily, lurker status.
Almost afraid to ask on the Husky site. Anyone done the interior of a certified airplane in Oratex?
Working on making an already light A-1 even lighter.
Tried some serious digging/searching here on the subject without any luck.
Opinion or actual experience doing it from the legal perspective?
 
Any guess on how much weight you’ll save?
Dunno..a few# ? Savings on Oratex vs legacy covering seem like in the range of 20-25#. For the exterior.
I'm investigating doing the interior because it is completely apart. Could save some weight besides. How much, don't know.
A number of cubsters have done it. From the blogs but maybe only EXPs.

People replace aircraft interiors with all kinds of stuff, half inch foam, various composites, etc. To be safe, I'd take it up with whoever is going to sign off the work, but basically, that interior mostly just keeps you from poking a hole in the skin from inside.

Let us know what you come up with for a final empty weight.

So far with 31s, which are mission required, as well as BBW, no gyros and a light weight tail spring, Im in at 1297 on certified scales. Already peeled the fabric but didnt feel like the hassle of weighing the rubble. Guess I will have to wait for the final reveal..

Oh, and the 210cm MT prop.
 
Id have to look in my paperwork again when i get back home to Ak but pretty sure i weighed in at 1217lbs, but my 12 is 18” extended wings, 3” gear, 31”abw, Charley Centers wings and tips and tail brace, acme tail stinger, baby bush,160hp/0320, 82/41 prop, seaplane door, wolf window, 3”bigger tail feathers, led lights, atlee long step both sides, short step also on right, wood floors, headerless system, setup for belly fuel pod, full electric with a giro in dash, and the Oratex 6000 white/corsair blue fabric.
 
A friend with a J3 did his interior with Oratex. Exterior also, but trying to stay on topic. I will be doing the interior of my Cub with it when I recover the fuselage and am putting it on my wings this year. STC'd for the airframe, 337 for everything else.

STCs require a 337. Look up the requirements, the interior panels would be a minor alteration, no 337.

At the rate I am gaining weight, I am removing every pound I can from everywhere in the plane. 25 lbs in the fabric means more gumbo and whiskey will fit. ;)

Dont forget he had some Oratex come off a plane they raffled off cause not installed correctly.😳
Tough crowd! I figure the fabric came off after it was wrecked shortly after the raffle;)….

Well not to be difficult ....

"in" and "out" in this instance modify the base word - "wash". So "wash" IS a correct term when speaking without qualification. "Wash" would therefor refer to either "wash in" or "wash out" or both if speaking in the larger sense. When speaking in an attempt to include all possible scenarios, the qualifiers would be incorrect.

That being said, I would have clarified by using something like "wash out or wash in - whichever the aircraft in question has" during the first few iterations in an attempt to clarify.

Sorry. I'm probably the only person you'll ever meet who used to diagram sentences for fun. English Grammar, Syntax and usage fascinate me. It's a weakness I know....
