Olibuilt 's New Cub project

Last winter project:

I have fabricated a "clamp on" bracket for a boat trolling motor quick attach base plate.
From the hand drawing to the powder coat, everything was done the old school way in my garage.

Strange but true story. About 40 years ago, a local sporting camp owner used to fish off his Ballanca scout with a similar set up. Maine fish and wildlife officers advised him he was in violation of law unless he registered his aircraft as a boat so he could troll with it. I don’t think he ever tried to do that. I think he just gave it up. What a bunch of BS.

I wonder what they would have said if he had just left the airplane's engine idling? Fish and wildlife officers do seem to always have a more important that thou chip on their shoulders.

Conni Edwards got some grief one time about either his Albatross or his PBY. He registered it as a boat and put boat registration numbers on it. You had to know him.

Motor setup is good to position the plane on the fishing spot. Also great when you want to move away from the shore or rocks, before starting the real engine. Way better and stronger then a man with an oar...

But the airplane wants of course to naturally weather vane into the wind.
