I did my search... The last discussion I found was back in early 2006.

Thanks

Oil Filter Adapters

I don't know if there is a consensus on the matter. Last spring I put on an adapter from ECI and have been happy with it. It was not too much over two hundred bucks and didn't require an STC.

Just finishing the install of the Casper Lab version on mine. Biggest problem was moving the voltage regulator to make room, and that ended not being a huge issue.

And changed to a solid state regulator while I was moving it.

Have 450 hours on my Casper Labs adapter on a O-360, would never go back to a plain screen. K&N makes a race car filter for experimental applications, buy in bulk and you get a filter of Aviation or better quality for half the price,[K&N #1002] it's small though so I change it more often than the bigger Champions. No free lunches in this world but my engine's health is worth the few bucks a filter costs. I won't engage in a urinating contest as to which adapter is better, I just know they are all better than a screen. Bill at Casper Labs is a stand up guy and appreciates any and all business, he gets my vote.

Spin on oil filter

I installed an ECI oil filter adapter on my Lyc O-320 but it didn't come with all the parts it was suppose to, and ECI wouldn't make it right. I had to shop around for what I needed.

Chief Aircraft offers the Casper Lab 90 degree oil filter conversion for $273.50[/b]

I just converted my PA-12-150 to a spin-on filter using the Casper Labs kit. The quality of the part is excellent and the price is better than anything else I could find.I bought the kit that comes with a vernatherm valve, as my engine still had the older style viscosity valve. The Casper kit (w/vernatherm) didn't cost much more than the B&C kit without. I love B&C but hey, you gotta save what you can. Look at the price of a Lycoming kit and they're BOTH a bargain. If you don't have a vernatherm, I would suggest making the swap. My oil temp. comes up to 185-190 and doesn't move. You may have to make up new cooler lines as re-routing is often required. I did. If you have a stock oil temp gauge(capillary tube type) you will need an adapter for that as well. B&C catalogs them as a regular stock item.

I just called ECI the kit is $307.73 now. Sure wished I had bought one of those $200.00 ones!

I have a remotely mounted Airwolf which appears to perform satisfactorily, but has two drawbacks: first, it is mounted to the firewall (with a doubler), but you still flex the firewall a bit when tightening and loosening the filter. Second, due to the geometry of the mount, the hose running to the filter does not empty when the oil is drained. Therefore, two or three tablespoons of oil always spill out after the filter is removed, and this makes for a bit of a mess. Not a huge issue, but certainly a nuisance that makes the task last longer than it should.

Try J&J Airparts and ask for Pat. I bet she can get you a better price. 830-569-3891

Thanks Steve

Shipping tomorrow, I owe you a beer!

For what its worth, if you go to the fly-weight B&C alternator mounted on the accessory case you just about have to also change to an oil filter because the right-side screen housing bolts are almost impossible to get to once the alternator is mounted. And practically impossible to get the [screen] housing completely off.

I bought the ECI kit a few years ago, I love it especialy for the reason Luke stated, i have the SD-8 alt. The filter, and housing, looks like it should "Be There"..
I did have to order a bushing I beleive from B&C for the temp probe though..
