New Alaska Gear Co. shocks

The Kid

FOUNDER
Thompson Falls
Has anyone tried out the new Alaska Gear Co. shocks? I have the ASOSS and wonder if there would be much improvement? I am always looking for ways to invest my Kids' inheritance money (form me) for them.

I have not had a chance to fly them yet however I just came from a friends house that put them on and said they are so much better then even AOSS. This guy has been flying in Alaska for 40 years or so and had recently flown a AOSS equipped cub for at least 6 months. His opinion was they are well with the money!! Most of the places cub pilots go even today can be done with bungees and some skill. The fancy stuff just makes us lazy.

One thing in that video that I’m curious about is that it doesn’t seem to rebound back to where I would guess the static sag would be. I would think you would want that.

The bungee set has a lot less weight on the 'seat'. Would the 'bounce' change if the weights were equal?

And the G loading is labeled higher on the bungees with less weight on them. This does not appear to be a valid test comparison. Also the test is on large balloon tires which provide a lot of shock absorption on their own. Unless they also did the drop tests on "regular" tires, the STC would be limited to the balloon tires.

Just put a set of certified on an outfitters cub. Will get a good work out this hunting season.I fly an experimental cub highly recommend them

Recommend what? Alaska Gear Company's new shocks, Acme, AOSS or ? But thanks for your interest and feed-back.

So with the TiSHX of Alaska Gear just out, it's probably too soon to tell which is better; Acme or TiSHX as the AOSS seem not to be as good as either one of the newer ones?

If you’re worried about weight Dave, I’m guessing the certified Acmes are a tick lighter. If you research that, make sure and share your findings. I’d bet you’re splitting hairs on the performance between the two.

Acme Black Ops shocks have been certified for a little over a year. Highly highly recommend!

Weight of (1) original hydrosorb w/strut @ 5.9lbs & (1) Black Ops @ 7.8lbs. Best weight gain ever!IMG_5146.jpgIMG_5147.jpg

I think my AOSS were heavier than the original too. So it comes down to TiSHOX vs ACME. It really takes flying both of them to compare, with the same plane. That data probably isn't going to be readily available very soon.

I ordered a set of TiSHX, coming from AOSS. Will be here end of this month and will have to report back. Started out with bungees a few years ago and have about 500 hours on AOSS now.

Please do report back. Too bad I'm not closer cause I'm the champ of "dropping it in" and having AOSS now; that's what I want to hear about. The comparison.

Will do, just talked to alaska gear company they said I should have mine the week after 4th of July weekend. They said I’m like one of the last sets in that first batch of 50 they made

It would be just a guess on my part but, because of their past innovative engineered successes, I would think Alaska Gear's TiSHOX will smoke any other competitors' shocks. But, again, just a guess.

Nitrogen is added at when the shock is put together. It is a sealed unit unlike the adjustable ACME.

The implication is, because Acme’s have a schrader fill valve, that the 250 psi was let out of each shock before the video was made, hence the oscillation.

I was excited about the Acme shock for my PA-12, at the airmen's show I learned it's not certified on a PA-12 with 3" extended gear. I have 3" extended PA-18 gear. Field Approval?

Sooooo someone is willing post they saw the ACME shock altered for the test??????????????/
