Need help with cowl fastener

Hello from germamny.
We are nearly finished our Piper project after three years.
A Piper Super cub 150 hp, Ser.#:77-09056
Now we need some fastener for cowlings and like to order this from Aircraft spruce, but we can't find the correct part number.
For lower Cool Assembly we like to use Southco Fast. flush slotted. The old one shows the number 5-F-80 but they are a little bit to short. In Piper parts we find the #: 5-f-60. Can some one help us with the correct number for Aircraft Spruce ??
For the top Cowlöing Oval slotted. Also on an old one we found the #: "200". But a little to long. In our Piper parts catalog: 5-0-200A. Also we like to get the# for Aircraft Spruce.
Also we need to order the grommets for the fastners.

Thank you so much for help if possible !!

Univair shows 85-11-140-16 for the top cowl, for example. My PA-18-95 cowl uses Southco #'s 160's and 180's. 85-11-160-20, 160 being the length, 85-11-140-20 is one length shorter and 85-11-180-20 is one length longer and 85 being the diameter, -20 is stainless. The push on retainer to hold the stud in the panel is 85-34-201-20, the retainer can be installed using a deep socket and supporting the stud. I also used the plastic wear washers #85-46-101-39 which require a stud one length longer, the shortest stud being 160 in my cowl. My guess is an assortment of 160's and 180's should do it if using the plastic wear washers. I do not see a flush slotted stud in #85 diameter listed in the A'cft Spruce catalog and used oval heads in my lower cowl. I think that is a typo in the parts catalog for the Lycoming cowl and should be 5-10-200A same as the Continental cowl. I happen to have those numbers handy because I recently ordered some spares in 82 diameter, paid to ship them to me and then paid to ship them back. Jim

Here is some more information -- I made it to the hangar where my records are.
The lower cowl has four slotted flat head 1/4 turn fasteners located where the side doors come down and cover them -- I think those are the ones you are having trouble finding.
The ones I removed from my cowl had heads marked Southco 080. The ones I bought from Skybolt have heads marked Lion 5-F-100 -- so I also went to a longer stud. The part I ordered (in 2006) from Skybolt was Southco part # 85-14-100-16 which is steel. I would have orered 85-14-100-20 which are stainless steel but Skybolt didn't have them. -- these parts are listed on page 39 of their 1/4 turn fastener catalog on-line at the web site I linked above.
But, that is the easy part --- the fasteners are held in place by a crimped aluminum stud grommet. This grommet is DZUS part numbr GF5-175. It takes an inexpensive tool to install the grommets. Once in place the grommet tightens up on the cowl and traps the Southco stud so it won't fall out. I think that the Skybolt information on line has it all, parts, tools and instructions.

Went out to the hanger and looked at mine.

The six fasteners on the top cowl sides (hold the side cowl hinges on) are #140. The three across the front of the top cowl are #200.

The front ones are longer (#200's) because there's a thick chafe strip that runs around the nose bowl lip that they have to allow for.

Take care,

Crash

Thanks all for the good help !!
We ordered today the fastener from Skybolt.
They have not all in stock and some only in steel, but we hope to do the job !

Greets from north germany with raining weather.....no problemn moment, ....we need good weather in ??? three weeks for the first test flying.

Thanks Darryl, you have been a great help. Can you possibly give me the designation number of the female receptacle for the Airloc 180 stud.Cheers,Ron.

Where do you get the dies to dimple the lower cowl for the flush fasteners

i made mine..

but you also could just drill a hole in a block of hardwood to be the die, and beat a fastener into the metal sheet....

practice on scrap, you can crack it

Bringing back an OLD thread....

Anybody try and find Southco 85-14-100 studs recently? I just got off the phone with Genuine Aircraft Hardware, Skybolt, Monroe Aerospace, Wicks and searched via Google with absolutely Zero luck trying to find any. Does anyone here know of an alternate part or where I might find a few?

FYI it is the lower cowling FLUSH head stud. Normally they are -080 but the cowling Im working on needs the next size longer to fit right.
