NAS bolts for installing the metal bracket on the end of a wood spar? J3

I was installing these brackets and wanted to put new bolts in…I’m doing a ground up restoration and K am in assembly mode. The only appropriate length AN5 sized bolts I have are these NAS shear type bolts. Are these appropriate for the shown application? I don’t really want to make a spruce order for 8 bolts if I don’t have to. Lol. These are the same type bolts use on the strut attach forks.

I think anywhere you can use an AN bolt an NAS bolt is ok. The reverse is not true. But be careful - some high strength bolts have a radius under the head requiring a special washer, and at least on the 1946 Cub there is a clearance problem with the bird cage.

Edit: I think, if you are putting this on a '46 fuselage, the nuts go on the front.

It’s a 1944 L4 that was converted years ago back to the J3 configuration. The nuts were on the back side when I took them off, but I will make sure it fits. Thanks for the reply…I thought it was ok, just wanted another opinion.

NAS bolts are a closer tolerance on the diameter of the bolt. Better than an AN as long as it fits the hole. I use them on worn Carbon Cub aileron and flap hinges.

Plus, they are 160,000 psi bolts, while the AN series are 120,000. I switched over on the Decathlon gear legs and tailwheel attach.

Not cheap - ACA wanted $120 each for the longer ones. Genuine found them for $32 each. Good folks.
