My Plane Will Be Done By Spring

Having built 5 kitplanes, I was already chortling even before seeing this post, just the title cracked me up.

Isn’t it a strange feeling after working so long to realize there is nothing else to be done? That it’s ready to fly.

When we would finish a build everyone in my shop would be depressed for a week or two. You pour so much of your soul in to these things that is is hard sometimes when you reach the goal.

I know one thing, until someone has taken even a relatively easy to build kitplane, much less a scratch build, to completion, they have no idea how much blood, sweat, and tears is involved. When I see accounts of someone wrecking a store bought plane, and then a few weeks later they're flying another store bought bird, having already moved on so to speak, it kinda drives me crazy. Good for them, but even IF I had full hull coverage on my RANS, once they handed the check over, my time to build has to come out of my rear end.
