My Other Plane was…..

Once in a while I search Google for a number of a plane I used to own. I owned a Great Lakes 2T1A-1 for a few years and sold it around 2005. I came across photos of it when it was used in a photo shoot in 2016 for a wedding “save the date card”. I have no idea who the people are. I think the pictures were taken in VA.

Those pictures were taken when I owned
the airplane in 2014. A photographer asked if they could use it for a photo shoot. I don’t remember who they were.
I sold the airplane in 2016 to a couple in Colorado.
Nice airplane.

I knew sooner or later another owner would turn up! I sold it to a guy from southern CA. He flew it from LI across the country and called me from the first fuel stop to say “you were right. This is the easiest tail dragger I ever flew “

I bought it when the first owner after the Jim Kimball rebuild traded it in on a new Pitts from the dealer on my airport. He used to let me take it to local fly-ins trying to sell it. Finally it dawned on me I should buy it. I really did love it. I have type 2 diabetes and at the time was getting a special issuance second class every year. I figured if I have get SI every year it might as well be a second. I also owned a 250 Comanche at the time. It was such a PIA at the time with the Feds and diabetes when Sport Pilot came out I sold both of them and bought the First Legend Cub and a ZO6 Corvette so I could still go fast and slow without a medical:-).

The guy from Southern CA brought it to OSH the next year. That was the last time I saw it in person. The claim when I bought it that it had no damage history was/is false. It took a while but I found it had gone on its back in St Augustine and then Kimball rebuilt it. The N number was changed but searching the serial number turned up the story. Didn’t mater to me. It was a great restoration. I found this before I bought it and still bought it.

Thanks for the post
Rich
