McFarland Cowl Seal Installation and Cowl Fit

This is a progress report on modifying my engine cowl baffles to make them fit the cowl - don't buy baffles that someone builds from drawings for the original felt seals then tries to install silicone seals - the baffles are the wrong shape for that change, beware!
The following photos are of the Mcfarland seals I have cut so far. This is great stuff with Teflon on the side that rubs against the cowl. I also bought 2 inch wide Teflon tape (.012 inch thick) from McMaster Carr to stick to the underside of the cowling for the Teflon/Silicone seals to rub on. Mostly I plan to use Pop Rivets to attach the seal material once the baffles are repainted but I temporarily have screws attaching the seal material to the baffles.
Also, as we (Vivian & I) repeatedly fit and refit pieces of cowling on the plane, we are having a tough time getting the quarter turn Southco fasteners to cooperate. These things want to jam, not line up, etc. until we want to use a hammer on them. Is there some secret to working with them? We now have the whole lower cowl off and the attaching screws loose. That helps with some limberness as we try to get the Southco fasteners to connect. Any tips would be much appreciated.
Thanks, Darrel
