ANYBODY HAVE ONE, HOW DO YOU LIKE IT AND HOW DOES IT COMPARE TO THE GARMIN? WHICH GARMIN WOULD IT BE COMPARABLE TOO?

Got one.

Like it.

Hard to figure out how to get the thing working, but that's just because I'm dumb. Once I figured it out, it wasn't too bad. The last GPS I bought was in 1991, so I can't compare it. They're BIGGER than the Garmin, but that might be a good thing. I think it's a bargain.

Go mess with one for awhile.

With the money I saved, I bought a little more Garmin stock!
:)

I have one also. I like it, not to complicatedfor my pea brain. A lot less money than the fancy Garmins.

One thing...

I have a 1000 series unit, and it actually has a feature that I certainly like that my King doesn't have, it has towns in its database in addition to airports. For me, this is a desirable feature.

I was looking at the unit at Osh Kosh and in Tim's 2+2 and it has alot of nice features for the money. My thoughts however is it would be nice to have the bigger screen but where in the world would you mount it in the front of the Cub with it not blocking windscreen.

I've got mine over on the right side forward of the door, about elbow high. Since it comes with a RAM mount, I just bought one of those u-bolt balls and hooked it to the tubing in the -12. I just loosen the mount and let it dangle until I'm saddled up. It's handy that way and doesn't get in the way of the flaps, trim or fuel valves. My back-seater can see it better, too, which she claims is mandatory.

In the citabria, the yoke mount works well on the fuselage tubing. With the location, I don't lose any view out the window and the unit only blocks the view of the frame and wing root. In the Cessna, I use the suction mount on the window and bring the unit back around so it is over the door post and again, from where I am sitting, do not lose any view out the windscreen. I have tried the yoke mount, but don't like all the crap on my controls and the current mounts in both planes seem to keep the control spaces clean.
As I've mentioned before, on floats the shoreline detail is great when I've landed late evening and am trying to find the little inlet where I wanted to camp. It would also be a great safety should you every find yourself actually landing in the dark. This high detail is not on the base map (don't trust the general base map detail on any GPS unit to show small islands, etc), but easily added with all the included software - Garmin charges for these extras. I just got the day off for Johnson Creek, so will have the unit there if anyone wants to borrow it to play around with on flights out of JC.
I also found it very useful on a trip this week from Boulder back to Boise when I got into rainshowers and reduced visibility over Rocky Mountain National Park through Central Colorado. I had my finger on the sectional with clear idea of my out options, but the big screen with the terrain detail was an incredible addition to my situational awareness and took away some of the pucker factor.
