Looking for PA-12 Door Frame "Trim"

Hi All:

Unfortunately the plane is away and I need to do this from memory. I am looking for the metal trim or molding around the door opening for the PA-12. I am not sure if what is there is original or not. But, what is there if I remember is sort of a u-shaped channel that is screwed down. I am also looking for the "windlace" that seals the gap between the door and the frame.

Thanks in advance.

Have you a parts manual. I know the man who restored mine made it out of stainless. dont' think any 12 ever had a wind seal.Mine is made of four or five pieces.

PA 12 door trim

I am fabricating mine from light stainless also. Mine came originally with windlacing held down by 1/2 inch strips of aluminum screwed down to hold it in place. About the best that you can do I think.

Door Sealing

Use the stainless steel (0.060" or less) around the lower part of the frame, I did it and after nearly 10 years of use, it is still in great condition. Everybody (passengars) hits there foot in that area, stainless takes it and keeps on going.

Gary-

Do you have an oppionion of putting tabs on and screweing or riveting the door frame on instead of welding it? It would be nice to be able to paint under the frame and inspect/remove corrosion.

PA 12 door frame

I welded tabs around my door frame and think its the only way to go.

I had to replace the tubing under the door and the left side window due to water getting where there was no paint coating protection. Never again.
