so I just had a thought and searched internet some but did not find what I was thinking of, so before I reinvent the wheel again I thought I'd ask if anyone has seen such a thing....

looking for Log Book templates? for like MS Office or Openoffice?

here's what I am thinking,

to make a custom paper log book that looks simular to an original small one,

this would allow you to type your main entry (you'd only use for starting new log, like at rebuild time of airframe or engine) then print it out, and all the extra blank pages with the watermarking/page numbering and lines just like a real one.....instead of printing first huge entry out and gluing/sticky label/stapling it in a book.....

and maybe a custom cover with picture/watermark of plane on it... just would finish a job nice.....

and once its a template its just fill in the blanks and hit print!

that would help not mixing it up with someone else's books at a shop....

just curious if its already been done and easy to find.....

Pretty easy to set up with Excel, I'd think. It would be simple to track categorical and grand totals. I've been thinking about that, and have found some online Excel templates, but they're too complex to suit me. It's been a few months (or more), so I can't offer links.

A database app, using MS Access or similar, could make for easier inputting and reporting, but I'm not database-development-savvy.

Also, seems there was a thread on this topic at one time?

Edit: Crazy idea I haven't thought through. This is simply accounting, but instead of dollars we're keeping track of time. I bet one could adapt MS Money or Quicken or similar!!! Reports would report dollars, but - - --

oh, sorry... not what i meant...

I still want to make it a regular dead tree version..... just starting from something I type up..... was just wondering if it had been done already before i put effort into it....

think template will be easy enough to make in open office as a document....

FYI....
so I did have a nice chat with my FAA guy today about making a custom paper log book,

he said no problem, there are no rules about the actual book or whats contained in it in the US, but in canada there are rules...

there are only rules as to how the entries must be made in the US....

And I Did make up some practice templates the other night... should be easy enough to do as a OppenOffice text document.....

goofed around last night some more with it...

and got some basic templates started...

and after a trip to the office store for some long paper and a LONG stapler....

its starting to be like what i envisioned....

of course once the first one is layed out, all the rest will only take minutes to make...

I will post some OpenOffice.org templates when done..

but the general idea is the first 5 or so pages will be your typed rebuild entry(s), then the rest generic log book.... still think AD list will be separate as usual....

printed with a color laser printer, so it will not run if it gets moist...

will add text to cover for 'log book #XX' and N-number, owner etc. on cover....

but you get basic Idea
(old fuzy image of a cub from a few years ago, will use this design on -12)

the 'super cruiser' is just a image(lightened up some) in the background of page/watermark, you will just choose whatever you want

I like it. I always keep an "Airplane" logbook that I keep records in, then move to pilot logbook at home when I feel like it.

Definitely cool. And, I use open office too.

Maybe Google Docs would work? Might be some formatting issues, but easy to share - -

see if these work...

uploaded to google doc... kept as openoffice format( download it at www.openoffice.org)... obviously replace picture/page back ground pictures with your own

you need to print on legal size paper... both sides.. I hand fed mine...

there is page 1 and 2, you will have to think hard where to put your typed pages for the book to go in order.... I will have to post my cheat sheet next time I see it at shop...

blank pages to print on front side of sheet(for ones you plan on typing initially)
