little cubs and VGs

I have a pa-11 with a c90-8. I am thinking about insatlling a VG kit. My question for you little cub quys, will I notice a difference? The airplane is on floats or ski. I like the performance on ski but sometimes a little doggy on the water. Will the VGs help me on the step and shorten my take-off? What type of VG is better? Do I need to buy a kit or just make my own? How many will I need? Just looking for some suggestions.

Thanks.

The VG will not help you get on the step at all. It did lower my stall 20% when heavy. Put them in the one I am getting ready to paint now. Would not be without them.
Put Micro on the first one. This one

Messed that post up.

This on I am putting some experimental ones on.

Can do stalls with my feet flat on the floor. Never seem to loose aileron.

I had MicroVortexGenerators on my PA-11 when they first certified them for the -11. They were on the wings only, not on the bottom of the horizontal stabilizers like the MicroVG kits today.

Without question, they improve your roll rate, improve your roll authority in slow flight, and help the wing keep flying at higher angles of attack.

I would not be without them on the wing and tail of a Cub that I own. (Presently, I own a project Cub and borrow Cubs from friends) Sure, Cubs fly fine without VG's, but Cubs fly even better WITH Micro VG's. DAVE

Thanks guys. What kind of experimental VGs did you put on Roger? Think I'll be going the micro VG upgraded kit. Just wanted some assurance that they are worth putting out the cash for!

Do a search for Vortex Generators on this site. You will get back more info than you can read in a weekend. In fact, this is probably the best single site on the internet for folks with experience with VGs

I love my Micro VGs on my -11. Wing and tail. Like Scouter says, search on VGs and you will find a couple of big posts on experience with VGs.

Short answer--put them on.

Micro provides quite a savings to experimental if you tell them.
They verify the N-number when ordering.

Tail seals make a difference as well, we bought Carbon Cubs the last time but two sided 3-M tape is lighter and works well too.

I have a PA-11 with a 90, I have Super cub tail feathers with Micro VGS on the wings nothing on the tail. Skis and wheels is all I use but the VG's are the best mod for the money I have tried. Really like my 26" Airstreaks Too. Just makes the plane feel more solid in the slower airspeeds. More precise control authority.

Forgot to mention that I'm in canada. Airplane is certified. Is the stc from micro approved for canadian aircraft? Thank you all for the replys.

So if i want a set of experimental ones for my 57 two door sedan, they wont sell me any?

My light PA 18 125 liked to drop off on a wing at the stall before the VG's. Now it just hangs there in a mush.

You can get it to break if you are aggressive but recovery is instant. I put micros on with them also on the bottom of the tail which helps keep the tail down so it hangs on to the air like the wing and take advantage of the slower stall speed.

Easy installation with the templates. I stuck em on, my A&P took a look and signed them off.
