KYDEX wanted

I purchased some Kydex a few years back.
The thing is, this proved to be the hardest thing to source and purchase.
I ended up finding some of a colour I liked in Florida, got it shipped to Ottawa and picked it up at Laird Plastics.
On my latest "project" I tried to source the stuff again. Here in Canada. Can't be found anywhere. So I contacted the factory, to be told that white and black should be available without having to purchase in bulk. They have stock at factory, just get distributor to order from them. Well, that was not that easy. The freight was so that no one wanted to purchase a couple of sheets without giving me a giant freight bill.

So, where do you guys in the lower 48 buy the stuff from? Who stocks the stuff???
Better question would be: Is there an alternative for similar product available in stock in quantities of 2 sheets in different colours.

I had one sheet that I did use to do most of the panels in my PA-22/20-150 I ended up using 1/4" marine grade plywood in the baggage compartment and painted it to match (more or less) the plane's colour and had to use leatherette for one sidewall panel in the back. It looks good, because everything is very close in colour, but its frustrating when you finally find a great and versatile product but just can't find it anywhere.
I've been asked by a few friends to let them know if and when I can source some.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. If it can ship to Upstate NY at reasonable cost, it would be worth the 15 minute trip across the river to pick it up at my US parcel address.

Than you,
JD

I been ordering from liard in spokane washinginton, saleman's name is Ron... he sourced it from one of their other locations and had it rolled & drop shipped to me in alaska for $40 total for 3 sheets by UPS...

just black and gray.. if you get picky on colors, then you make your life hard.....

Thanks guys
Is there not another product that has similar properties but easier to source??
I got the impression that since KYDEX was sold, not many dealers in Canada want to bother stocking and most the other ones you find have the small 12X12 and such available in black for sheaths and holsters.

Hello!

Sorry to jump in on this thread so late. First of all, thank you for using KYDEX Thermoplastics! I can help you in sourcing our material, JD.

With .250” gauge material, black, white, and gray are indeed the only colors available in this gauge for purchase by single sheet. However, there is only a four-sheet minimum to obtain ANY of our 64 library colors.

Can you please contact me at the factory so I can work personally with you to get you what you need? We want to make sure you have the same outstanding customer service experience you’ve had in the past and certainly deserve. You can reach me at 570.387.6997 x619 Thanks!

Is .250 a typo? Who uses 1/4" material in an airplane? I'm interested in .040 color availability.

Thanks.

I wondered the same until I reread the original post.
"I ended up using 1/4" marine grade plywood in the baggage compartment and painted it to match".
I think that lead to a misunderstanding of what thickness of kydex was wanted. jrh

Same here. No fuss no muss.

Yes, I mentioned the .250" gauge to make the comparison to the marine grade plywood that was used. Our 64 colors generally have a 1 case minimum order per item, because the sheets have to be made. So, for .040" that would be 20 sheets or in .060" that would be 16 sheets minimum in 48 x 96" sheet size. Stocking colors are generally black, white, beige or gray. The website listed by skywagon8a is correct and anyone checking out this thread can feel free to give me a call at the factory for further details. 570.387.6997 x619

JD - if you find a source, just have it shipped to me. I'm in Massena and it will be far less expensive. PM me you if you need shipping info. Good luck!
