Just a -12 recover.... uhhh nope

Not my mission.... my friends. This isn't intended to be a bush bird. He doesn't want skylights either, just a sweet flying super cruiser with some original vibe... it's going to be sweet. Today I sewed up my pattern and installed it... to my thinking it went very well. The cathedral braced 12's usually have metal headliners or none at all. Managed to get everything pretty close to dialed in, only a few minor adjustments but I made notations on the pattern. The good thing is I don't need to re sew the pattern. Overall, I couldn't hope for more considering it's a custom fitted headliner. You might have something there: A toast colored )deerskin would look absolutely fabulous as a headliner. Spike antlers for clothes hangars and throttle ball. How cool would that be?

Gear heads and prop heads; Low riders and tundra tires; two sides of the same coin. Good builders are all artists at heart and are undoubtably proud of their work.

Cool piece, thanks
That scene was part of growing up, in socal and central California. The culture surrounding it was always family oriented, very similar to the street rodding culture. The gang banging public did get into the look, sure but my perception was that it was always a pretty small percentage of the overall lowriding community.
The overall ban on cruising was kind of interesting, with regard to lowriding, most of the issues surrounding cruising where I grew up came from night time cruising, not alot of LR's mostly street rods. The daytime cruising seemed to be dominated by LR's, from what I can recall.
It's just like everything else... good apples and bad. Most of the time the good severely outweighs the bad, but the LEO's just didn't want to to deal with it....

I'm working the headliner now... I don't have bows though. The previous airframe didn't have them either... some goob had used waxed black lacing to hold it up by tieing it to the overhead structure. Any one ever rolled there own? Any plans showing where they attach? Anything you guys have a file on would be appreciated.
These may help someone in the future that references this thread

Yes car3 is less stringent. But I still need something along the lines of an astm don't I?

"If fabric is bought in bulk to refurbish the interior, seats, and ceiling liners for a CAR-3 aircraft used in part 91 operations, a manufacturer’s statement, declaring that the material meets the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) or similar national standard for either flash resistance or flame resistance, would be acceptable, but only for a CAR-3 aircraft installation. (Refer to 14 CFR part 43, section 43.13(a).)

Disassembled blasted and cerakoted.. the flap lever too. The pawl won't engage so I'm adding some weld to its mating surface.... fingers crossed.Screenshot_20250131_045952_Gallery.webpScreenshot_20250130_202737_Gallery.webp

So the pawl on that lever handle was worn and wouldn't engage the ratchet arc. I removed it and mig'd some weld onto it, and ground it to a suitable profile. Now it makes the most satisfying clicky clacky sound and works like Mr Piper designed it to...Screenshot_20250131_194828_Gallery.webpScreenshot_20250131_194629_Gallery.webpScreenshot_20250131_194622_Gallery.webpScreenshot_20250131_194614_Gallery.webp

Had a cool day today... managed to get a couple runs skied, then went to the hangar to finish sewing the headliner. The bummer is the 3m adhesive I ordered last Saturday still isn't here. If your considering crimp supply for anything.... don't. Screenshot_20250222_193451_Gallery.webpScreenshot_20250222_193458_Gallery.webp

Man, was that ever a pia! First fab bows, then sew and fit the mockup liner, next build and fit the headliner from Pendleton wool. Today I finished fitting the finished headliner into the fuselage.
Once installed and fit I glued it all into place... I don't want to think about all the time it took because I'm not an upholsterer... what a wonderful opportunity to be educated on the subject. Experience is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted...
