I'm seeking a FW Pilot Position COM, INST, SEL

Dan M

MEMBER
Looking for a Pilot job, my name is Dan M, I live in Colorado, they say use your contacts to find the next job, cant think of a better contact group.

Commercial / Instrument FW Pilot, over 2600 Hours logged, over 750 +High Performance/Complex, over 1000 Tail Wheel. got my pilots license in 1986, Part 91 Mountain Flying / AK Experience, I got my Commercial late 2024, so I'm a late bloomer.

I have flown most single engine Cessna's at one point or another, to include 180's 185's and Cessna 206's. Piper from a J3 to a PA32. I am Tail Wheel current and competent, round engine experience also, flying regularly normally over 100 Hours a year, Instrument current but still cleaning it up. Not Float rated but will get the rating if needed. Looking for a Pilot Job that would allow me to keep my residency in Colorado but will consider Seasonal / Remote / Temp positions. Seasoned A&P / IA Helicopters and Airplanes (91 & 135) but ready to move into a FW Pilot position. Not looking for a "Time Building" position or "Starving Pilot" wages.

Three zero three, 594, two zero zero 6 please leave msg

Thank you
Dan

FW??

I'm sure I'll feel stupid (well... even stupider) after you tell me, but right off the top I'm not apparently hip enough to figure it out on my own.

Best of luck finding a gig though.

FW (Fix Wing), I wrench on helicopters mostly to pay the bills for now. FW Part 91 for fun and how I got my time up to this point.

I'm assuming you have no interest in Part 121 flying? Get your Multi and go to Skywest and be based in DEN.

Operators like pilots with A&P, especially IA. Then they can move them from the flight line to wrench when needed. There's lots of pilots, maybe not as many with experience in the hangar.

Exactly, with that combo the jobs come looking for you.

As for 121, the age thing makes it not practical. 5 to 10 years ago probably would have been worth it but with the 65 age limit, not enough time left.
Sad part is you could be a wet nosed pilot living in your parents basement with 3000 hours and cant find north without a GPS and get hired anywhere, Chuck Yeager with 2000 hours would not have a chance to get hired anywhere.

65 age limit...a friend of mine is 62 years old & was a pretty senior UPS 747 captain.
Apparently they are downsizing & they offered him an early-out incentive, which he took.
Avelo hired him, trained him up including a 737 type rating,
but before he got his IOE done United made him an offer & he went over there.
Still flying the sim, & waiting for his IOE.
I wouldn't think it would be cost effective to spend that much money on someone who's only gonna be working for another 2-1/2 years or so,
but apparently both Avelo & United disagree.

I doubt United is going to use him as a line Captain.....seniority rules in the airlines you know. They all start at the bottom.

These early out guys know they are starting at the bottom. They are just double dipping getting their early out buyout and then continuing to fly until they are forced to hang up their spurs. Plus their wives probably don't want them around so much.

Early buyout (Covid induced) helped me too - I got paid to work on my Javron build plus I feel I saved someone from getting furloughed. No desire to go back and be bottom FO in the least desirable base. Agree the 747 guy talking about above 'has' to be just doing sim training, no way in %$&L he can skirt around the union seniority lists (as it should be, you leave the list your spot is gone). Of course there are places you can go and slide in as Captain - but no US ALPA carrier.

He'd be bottom of the barrel as an FO too.
Pretty sure he said he'll be flying as a captain...but no doubt on the crappiest, least desirable trips.
I'd have just took the early-out money & run, but to each their own.

There's always a certain number who when "timed" out due to a birthday just can't stop, so they find a foreign airline or corporate job which didn't have the age restrictions. There's a certain nonagenarian "kid" here who tried that, don't know if he actually did it or not.

Don't know if youre still looking, and it's kinda late now, most operators already have their pilots selected for the upcoming summer season, but there is a pilot shortage you know: if you're still interested, I suggest driving up, or purchasing a one way ticket to Alaska, or emptying your bank account first, then come up, start talking...you'll find a job cause you can't afford to leave...
