'53 L21B needs some lower longeron corrosion repair between tail post up to about two feet in front of the tail post. How should I cut the fabric in such a way that I can peel it back, do the repairs, and then roll it back into position, cement, tape it, and build up the coatings to final finish? cut along longerons? Maybe I just answered my own question, but will the fabric be tight enough at the end of all this once I initially release the tension with the peel back? trying to avoid a full fuse recover....

Any thoughts? Search didnt turn much up...poly fiber process BTW

thanks

you cut the CENTER of belly.... then gently unglue sides from longerons... carefully roll up sides without creasing fabric

do you work...

then glue/contact cement to longerons and patch on belly unseen from sides....

after it has dried well/a day hit it with a good heat gun (one that blows lots of air) if needed...

need additional cut up the back of the tail post to be able to roll up fabric? right? Thanks Mike

Also, use flat rib cord and baseball stitching to pull the edges of the old fabric together before patching.

nah..... that was in the old cotton days before the heat shrinkable fabrics....

nah...? I guess AC43.13 (-1B, 1998 ) must be wrong then. Ch. 2-43, REPAIR OF TEARS AND ACCESS OPENINGS says "When all the original fabric is intact..." It doesn't say cotton only. The patch, heat shrinkable or not, comes after you close that gaping hole by sewing the edges of the original fabric together.

I use the Stewart Systems for patching these sort of repairs. Call Jason at 1-509-782-3626.
