I am just wondering if there is any more planes like that still flying around( same as the one in the video) do they still make them with that wing
I always wanted a super cub but i changed my mind.

there's still plenty flying around. They're pretty much the same as the airplane in the video, minor differences in engines, window configuration etc. All helios have that wing, that's what a helio *is*. As far as I know no-one is currently manufacturing the Helio, although there always seems to be some organization trying to get geared up to make them.
I am dickering on one now.If the guy will move a little i will get a pre buy.I have seen several demos and have never seen one perform as good as the old footage i have seen.Last year they gave rides and a demo of stol empty near here.It was a fundraising jaars affair. Most of the locals were not all that impressed.I am assuming their demo pilot that day was not their most experienced.I hope to eventually see first hand if i get some experience. An old timer up the road had one when i was a kid.He eventually traded it for a 185.He liked some things, but liked the 185 better. He said if you got that thing stuck in snow u needed to get a d6 to get her unstuck. My biggest worry is parts.I have talked to people and said some things are getting scarce. The gear drive engine has a fairly low tbo also. There are some guys on this board who have worked on em anf flown em,so i know little compared to them.I saw that video a few monts ago,and i beleive they talk about lots of wind on the real short takeoffs and landings.I wish i could get the darn things out of my mind, but the thoughts just wont go.I have had these thoughts before and eventually i always lose money.
well, I dunno if there was any sound to the video, I watched it on a computer with no speakers, so if they said anything, I missed it. But, on at least one of those takeoffs the plane seemed to levitate pretty much vertically. The courier was claimed to be able to maintain flight at 28 MPH (or was that knots?) so if the plane is rising vertically, the wind must have been approaching that. I think you could get some pretty "gee- wow" footage of a cub in a 28 mph headwind also.
I would look first at the insurance costs. The few people I know who have owned them , got rid of them because the insurance was outrageous. If you want that kind of slow flight capability get a Birddog-L-19- Cessna 305. Lots less money !! The low end of the airspeed indicator is 25 MPH . I have flown the L-19 with full flaps and power when the airspeed indicated less than 25 MPH. John
I just watched the video again. The extreme takeoffs were from an faa test and the first set was surface winds of 18 with gusts to 25.The second series say this shows the controlability with extreme winds, ibeleive it says the plane was flown in up to 60 mph winds with control.
When I say 'My Helio' I must admit that I am a Flight Simmer, for my sins! and this is one of the aircraft I like to fly. It seems to operate in a similar manner to that in the video mentioned earlier in this thread, although, not having flown one for real, I can't honestly comment.
