Gear length with Borer prop

My wife is learning to fly (don't discount the value - she says that old GPS doesn't work that well ! Yes dear new one coming up) my cub and I've noticed on 850's and normal gear the Borer prop is too close to the ground. I'm thinking the 6" or 3" extended gear or Goodyears. Any comments on the best plan? I am only on wheels for a couple of months, the rest of the time I'm on skiis and floats. There is value for longer gear for skiis, if you think thats the best plan, what length are the snow bound guys useing?

Gear

If you have the original light duty stock gear, you will probly want to go the heavy duty gear befor you get larger "bush" tires. This used to be required by the FAA. If you get new gear you might as well get 3" extended for the small cost of upgrade. They will get your nose up higher when on skis. Going to a 29" or 31" tire will also help. Crash

3 in gear and 850 tires give you the same prop clearance as standard gear and 26 in Goodyears.

If you are planning on actually using it for bush work, I would suggest the 6" gear.

The problem is that the borer prop is so thin and fragile that the slightest ding may ruin it. I run 29" Gars and use the 6" over gear and have never dinged a prop and over 1/2 of my landings are in the bush. I also like the extra clearance for powder snow, which will erode a Borer prop badly.

One caution, if your last take off was on mud, your next landing should not be on rocks. The tires will sling the rocks right into the prop.
